NBRA Announces Ratification of Agreement for G League Start of Season

The National Basketball Referees Association (NBRA) and the NBA G League have passed a Letter of Agreement for the G League to play the 2020–21 season in February at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida. The format of the season will be modeled after the same bubble approach that the NBA tested and used this summer, with league-wide health and safety protocols in place to ensure safety amidst the COVID-19 crisis. A total of 18 teams will play, with the top eight advancing to a single-elimination playoff.

“The NBRA is proud to have worked with the NBA G League, in collaborative fashion, in order to ensure the Referees’ terms and conditions of employment for this unique season were adequately addressed,” said NBRA General Counsel Lucas Middlebrook. “We applaud the NBA G League for its focus on the health and safety of its professional referees.”

The NBRA is proud to join the G League community in returning safely to the court in a manner that is adherent to agreed terms and protocols and provides fans with a chance to experience the game remotely.
