Horrible officiating
Posted By n/a on 05/18/2008 6:53 PM Read the post: what I said was, "I didn't care for the call." At the same time, the point was to say that the Celtics haven't mustered a road win yet--and it wasn't simply because of one bad call. If you watch the highlights from the game, one might wonder why the Celtics did such a poor defensive job on LeBron James--wasn't that, as much as Joe Forte's call in the homestretch, if not more, to blame for the Celtics' loss? Perhaps the words of Paul Pierce say it best (from the Boston Globe): * The Celtics missed their last nine shots of the half and 12 of 18 in the quarter. "We just didn't make the extra pass," Pierce said. "We turned the ball over." [Oh, so it was poor shooting, bad passing, and turnovers that led to the loss...] * But Pierce was called for a questionable offensive foul with 49.9 seconds remaining while being guarded by James... "It's just the breaks of the game," said Pierce about the foul. "You have no control over it. I thought I got fouled on it. But the refs saw it differently. You have to move on." [Classy guy, that Paul Pierce.] The NBA pays referees on salary during the regular season, and in the post season they are paid a set dollar figure for each round worked. The reason the league does this is for exactly the reason that you state as a concern: if referees were paid on a per-game basis, they might be more inclined to make calls that could result in their getting additional games. If the officiating is so bad and it causes "Frustrated Fan" such pain, then perhaps he/she should stop watching the NBA. If it isn't as bad as that, then just stop griping. Oh, and things all worked out in the end. The Celtics won today, which pleases me greatly. Now let's just hope they can figure out how to win on the road--if they don't, though, I'm sure someone will take the time to tell us how it's the refs' fault.
