Subject: RE: Charging/Blocking and Traveling
Message: I agree completely! There are way too many charges being called. Refs are rewarding the wrong players in these plays. They have it completely backwards. Why are they rewarding defenders standing around doing nothing and other players coming from off the ball to step in front of players. They are rewarding the wrong players, which then encourages everyone else to do the same thing, which also teachers younger players and children to do the same. Not only is this not a good "basketball" play, this is also becoming a very dangerous play where players are stepping in front of players often going at full speed, or undercutting players who are already in the air. I have seen players get injured all too often!

On the other side is players being penalized for making good defensive plays. Players who actually go for blocks instead of trying to take charges are being penalized and getting fouls called on them when they jump straight up and try to block a shot. What happened to the defender having the right to jump straight up or put their arms straight up? Is this not a better play than just standing in front of the man with the ball or running in front of the man to try to take a charge?

Let's go refs! Get the calls right! Reward the right player and stop encouraging these stupid plays!
