| Not sure why, but there seems to be a bias against the Celtics in this year's playoffs by the refs. Even if you do the math, the number of free throw shots by opposing teams far out number those of the Celtics. It has also made it very difficult for the Celtics ie Ray Allen in last night's game to really make a great impact as he is sent to the bench because of the fouls the refs are calling on him. Just not right. I am not a big Celtics fan, but come on. Let the guys play. Let's not have the refs decide the outcome of these games. |

| Please, fellow Celtics fans, let's end this stupidity. The Celtics have generally not played well in the playoffs, and it makes us looks like fools to blame their poor play (and only home loss, incidentally) on the referees. Allen in particular has not played well, and to suggest that his performance is somehow because of some underlying referees' bias is nothing more than whining. |

Are you freaking retarded? I am not sure which NBA finals you are watching-or if you are watching the game tonight but the Celtics and the refs are winning. I would be embarrassed if I represented my profession like the refs have tonight. Your poor soft-skinned Celtics are being treated like high school kids and it's a crying shame that they actually think they are winning this series. It's you refs. I have heard a lot of talk this year about why basketball isn't as popular as football and baseball...it's simple-the refs have compromised the game. From throwing games they were betting on to allowing ancient Dick Bevetta to continue calling games when he can't see obvious fouls and makes up some that don't happen-that's the problem. The NBA has the cast to make a push on its popilarity but the refs are holding them down. It's unfortunate as the rabid basketball fan that I am, to see the game continue to struggl-and the answer is blatantly obvious-need more refs or better refs. Until then, the refs will continue to win and lose championships-not the teams. Frustrated, angry and suprised that the rest of the NBA world doesn't see the elephant in the room.... |

| I am glad the refs are getting critized this year. I just finish watching game 2 lakers celtics. That was a joke. I don't see how the refs can call a game like that and not get question? I would like some answers, just like the NFL. The NFL dosesn't dig to deep but at least we know they do review calls and not publically make there refs aware of bad calls. |

I also agree that the refereeing in Game 2 left a lot to be desired and, perhaps as Jeff Van Gundy says, there should eventually be a change in the amount of fouls (7 from 6) to allow players more time on the floor and less on the bench. Once the Lakers got Odom and Bryant sent to the bench, it changed the whole complexion and momentum for their team; officiating should not influence the outcome of games to such extremes. As it was, when the Lakers get only 10 foul shots to 30-odd foul shots for the Celtics, and the top player in the league has made next to no appearances on the free throw line, it makes one wonder. The amount of contact under the bucket has certainly not changed, it's definitely been rough (as front line NBA playoff basketball should be) but it appears so far very much in favor of the men in Green. Also, after watching the replay of the game, I feel the the calls from Bryant and Allen were not equitable; besides, watch some of the picks being thrown by the Celtics - two arm forearm shivers from Garnett and Brown, but Bryant gets called for trying to get past those picks?! The refs need to be equitable. The old time rivalry is back, but Boston should also remember they're fortunate a certain 7 plus foot, 285 pound 20 year old named Andrew Bynum can only watch for LA this year. From what I saw before he got injured (thanks to hard work and Abdul-Jabbar's coaching) they would not be dominating the inside as they have thus far; the only thing hanging from their rafters would be deflated shots he sent up there if any Celtic came down the middle. |

| I think for once the refs are doing a good job in the finals. The Celtics are playing good. old fashioned defense. Kobe and PJ are whining. The Celtics are playing more physical. This is the NBA folks. Kudos to the refs! |

| Last nights game was the worst i have ever seen. I am losing interest in the NBA after each year. The way the League baby's the poor officiating is ridiculous. Most NBA fans today are fans of their team not the sport because the NBA is a bad product. The NFL is a good product because the league does a better job with handling lop sided games. Fans around the world watch the Super Bowl but in the NBA as soon your team lose you stop watching. I see it is really easy for a ref to bet and get away with in the NBA for years because the league is so blind. What happened to the fans that want to see good FAIR basketball? As long as YOUR team wins no one cares these days. I'm glad this is the PGA tour US open week so i can watch a championship match where who ever plays the best wins not because of bad officiating. For a team to get 28 more free throw attempts and only win by 6 should tell you something. |

| I am sick of the NBA commenting on how difficult this game is to officiate. Its only difficult if you not being consistent. Call the game the same way for both teams and officiating will be much easier. All the fans want is a fair equal game and the refs have taking that away from the fans. I love the statement on the main page of this web site that says what would a NBA game be without officials? Well it would probably be better. The refs should go watch the NBA teams while they are scrimmaging during practice maybe they will learn something. |

| I don't see how ppl are saying the Lakers need to be more physical. They were and it got them more rebounds and either fouls against them or none fouls for them. I think there were some BS calls in the first game also. BUT Celtics deserve to win that game, they were more physical and played harder. Celtics had no business winning game 2. Laker started off playing good, got the lead. Not the refs started blowing there whistle and allowing fouls against the lakers. The celtics built up a 22 point lead cause of this. That the refs stop calling fouls and the lakers take it down to 2 points. 2 points from 22 points. Than what happens, refs call a reach in and a miss by Pierce, all I got to say is: If that was Kobe there was no way we would of got a foul call. |

If the officiating in the NBA offends you so much, then go watch something else. Celtics fans think it's a conspiracy against the Celtics, Lakers fans think the refs are out to get Kobe Bryant. Fans from other teams are probably sitting at home thinking their team would be in the finals now if it weren't for the sloppy officiating. After a while, the credibility wears thin.
For those who think the NBA would be better off without referees, I entreat you to watch games from during the referee strikes of the 1980s or 1990s when CBA and college referees tried to do this difficult job. Nearly every coach and player said after the "real" refs return, we may gripe about them, but it's great to have them back.
One final note: people should proofread their messages before sending them out. Most of the trolls who come on here can barely write at the third-grade level. When people who cry "foul" against the refs can't even put a noun and a verb in every sentence, it grossly undermines their claims. |

This is sounding board for basket ball not writing. Half the players in the NBA can't even write at a 3rd grade level. Maybe they would be better players if they knew how to properly use nouns and verbs in a sentence on the basketball court...lol
Well the officiating in the 80's and the 90's was much more consistent not like today. I think if we had replacement refs now it would probably be an improvement. Did you see the article today about the ref Tim Donaghy saying that in 2004 team GM's paid refs to call more fouls against their opponents? It looks like it happened again in game two. hmmmm... |
