The two calls that bother me the most are the charging/blocking calls and the traveling calls. I understand that the charge/block call is probably one of the most difficult to call, but it seems that too often it is called incorrectly, with too many charges being called. Is it that hard for refs to discern whether a player flops. I don't understand why refs aren't able to see that a defender is flopping, especially if it is someone that does it very often, such as Devin Harris or Manu Ginobili to name a couple. I also really dislike the restricted area in the key. Just because a player is in there doesn't automatically mean it should be called a block. In most of those situations, the player is just standing there, holding his position. Regardless of whether he is in the restricted area, the play should not automatically result in a blocking foul, especially if it wouldn't be called a block if he was outside of the restricted area. And finally, with regards to traveling, I feel that the refs are trying too hard to call travels. I am happy that refs are trying to eliminate traveling, but don't call it if it doesn't happen. Many times, refs call a travel when a player does a jab step, but it clearly is not a travel. On the other hand, most of the uncalled travels happen inside of the key when players shuffle their feet, and also when a player first receives a pass. Too often do they switch their pivot foot or just slide their pivot foot around. These are the plays that should be called travels, and not the other players where it just may look like a travel. If you want to get rid of players getting away with traveling, make the right calls! |

I agree completely! There are way too many charges being called. Refs are rewarding the wrong players in these plays. They have it completely backwards. Why are they rewarding defenders standing around doing nothing and other players coming from off the ball to step in front of players. They are rewarding the wrong players, which then encourages everyone else to do the same thing, which also teachers younger players and children to do the same. Not only is this not a good "basketball" play, this is also becoming a very dangerous play where players are stepping in front of players often going at full speed, or undercutting players who are already in the air. I have seen players get injured all too often!
On the other side is players being penalized for making good defensive plays. Players who actually go for blocks instead of trying to take charges are being penalized and getting fouls called on them when they jump straight up and try to block a shot. What happened to the defender having the right to jump straight up or put their arms straight up? Is this not a better play than just standing in front of the man with the ball or running in front of the man to try to take a charge?
Let's go refs! Get the calls right! Reward the right player and stop encouraging these stupid plays! |

| A jab step is a travel because the player has moved his pivot foot. This constitutes a step. |

| If you knew what a jab step was, you'd know it is not a travel. You only jab step with one foot. Your pivot foot stays put while you jab with the other foot. Only one foot is moving. |

Traveling? There is no traveling in basketball, not for certain players who get favorbale calls from the refs night in and night out. Take a look... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hH73R9GIbXg The above link shows a travel by Lebron that is so obvious. I just asked for examples a little while ago, and they are flooding in left or right. How many more do you want. And these are just this year save for the NBA finals last year, and we haven't tipped the ice burg yet. |

| The restricted area is the best thing the NBA ever did. it forces people to play actual defense rather than standing under the basket waiting for a charge |

This one is even more obvious and LeBron does this ALL the time and gets away with it. |
